Hello my name is Caroline and this is my wiki page... On this page you will see and read about Hana Brady's life before and during the Holocaust.
This is a picture of Hana Brady that was
taken before the Holocaust.
Hana Brady lived in the rolling hills of Nove Mesto, Czecholslovakia. She was born on May, 16th 1931. In this town of Nove Mesto, Hana's parents owned a general shop that sold whetever you needed. Hana loved to help at the store. She also loved to go skating at a pond nearby and dreamed of becoming a teacher. Hana was like every other ordinary girl, but not to some people. Hana Brady and her family was Jewish. They were not very religious but her parents always tried to make sure that she knew her religion.
One day Hitler and the Nazis came marching trough the town pronouncing Jews evil. This was the begining of the end for Hana. Later that year Hana's mother was sent a letter that sh ehad to be at the headquarters of the Nazis, the Gestapo. This meant that Hana had to say her goodbyes that night before she went to bed, since her mother had to leave very early that morning. The next morning was very quiet and so were that weeks following. About eight years later Hana's father was also arrested by the Nazis. Hana and her brother George were left behind with thier house cook. Hana and her brother then went to thier aunt and uncle's home so that they would be protected from the Nazis.
A couple weeks later Hana and her brother George also got thier deportation papers, stating that they had to be at the deportation center by the next day. Hana and George were sad to be leaving thier aunt and uncle but veryglad that they would be leaving together. Before they left they said thier sad goodbyes once agian. Once they got to the deportaion center they were forsed into a line. At the front of the line they had to give the guards, thier name, age, and were asked a couple of questions. They were at the deportaion center for four days; and while they were there they celebrated Hana's eleventh birthday.
On the last day that they were held, they were to be at the train tracks when the whistle blew that day. They arrived at the train tracks and went onto the train. It was not much of a train it was a cargo box meant for transporitng goods, not people. Hana and her brother were taken to Theresienstadt, a concentration camp. Once they arrived at Theresienstadt they were put into a line. Once they were in the front of the line they were asked about thier names and a couple other questions. Hana and George were then separated from each other and put into different Kinderheims or barracks. Since Hana was in the younger age group she was not able to have visits with her brother who was in a barrack nearby.
Hana missed her brother George very much. She became friends with an older girl in the next bunk, Ella. They became close friends and Ella comforted Hana when she was upset. One day there was an anouncement that the rules were changing and Hana would now be able to go out of the Kinderheim once a week for two hours. This made Hana very happy she could not wait to see George agian. When the day came that Hana could leave she ran across the ghetto yelling for her brother. She searched everywhere and finally found him in a bathroom, his job in the ghetto was to be a plumber. They both talked the entire time until Hana had to go back to the barracks.
Before Hana left George told Hana that thier grandmother had arrived in the ghetto. George said that the next time they were allowed out they would meet at George's barrack and then look for thier graondmother. Hana antisipated the time when she would see her grandmother again. Once it came time to leave the barracks Hana ran to her brother and they went to search for thier grandmother. They finally found her, but her state was terrible. Hana remembered when her grandmother's hair was nicely combed. Now it was a mess and so was the rest of her body. She was so weak. Hana and george vivited her everytime they got a chance. In only three months thier grandmother had died. Hana was very upseted by this tragety.
Although times were tough Hana occupied herself with the secret classes that the older prisioners would teach to them. Hana liked her music class and art class. She and Ella talked, but since Ella was older than her, she was not able to be in the same clesses as Hana. Soon lists began to pop up. These lists had names of the inmates on them. They would be deported to another camp. Rumors spread that the camp was a death camp, but Hana tried to surround herself with other conversations. Hana looked at the list everyday to make sure that George was not on it.
One day Hana looked at the sign and there it was, George Brady. Hana began to cry. Ella comforted her and reasured her that she and George would be okay. When Hana was allowed to vivit she ran to her brother. Hana and George gave each other hugs and George told Hana to take care of herself and to not get into any trouble. They talked until the bell rang taht they were to be back and she gave George one last hug and she left.
Hana missed her brother very much. Ella told Hana that they would see each other again someday. Four weeks later Hana found her and Ella's names on the list. Hana ran to Ella and asked her to help her get ready to see George. She wanted to prove to him that she was taking care of herself so she asked Ella to help her look fresh and new. So Ellla gave Hana the last of her soap and used it for Hana's face. It made Hana's cheecks look rosey. Once Hana was ready she and Ella both waited for the bell to sound to go to the train station. It finally came time and Hana and Ella boarded the train. It was not realy a train, but a cargo box. They went on and many were packed on the train. There was no room to move, to go to the bathroom, or even to take a fresh breath of air.
Hana did not like the ride but Ella encouraged her to sing some of the songs they had been learning in thier music class. Hana put her head on Ella and they sang together. Once they arrived at the camp they found out that it was Aushwitz.
